Delays Delays Delays – Marvin the Martian
by Daniel Mohr on October 17, 2011 at 11:36 pmHey all,
So I am sure people have noticed that I have not posted a new comic in the last week. A lot has happened lately which has gotten me a bit behind schedule and I do apologize. The good thing is that all the delays are good things. After almost a year, I have a paying job again, even though it is only a temp position, it still pays the bills. Also, a fellow web comic artist, and friend “Sketch” Gustafson of STV fame has introduced me to a new drawing program which should help me out quite a bit. (I’ve just had some problems with instillation, but I think I have it beaten now.) So please hang with me, as these upgrades to life and the comic occur, it should be well worth it.
Hey all, I am sure you have noticed that last week there was a lack of comics. I do apologize. It seems I was having some site issues, all my fault and some new plug-ins for comicpress, had nothing to do with my provider. However, I do believe I have the bugs fixed, and should be posting regularly again.
Another change that I needed to add was a new anti-spam device. For some reason the bots have been extra busy, to the point were I was getting over 30 spam comments a day. So the new spam filter does require you to do a little math, but it shouldn’t be anything hard. Please continue to comment though, I do love to hear from you all.
See you Monday with the continuation of the Egyptian Creation Myth.
So this weekend is the final weekend for “Once Upon a CSI’. If you are still thinking of seeing myself and Jules in our first Fringe Festival performance you’d better do it this weekend. Wolfie is getting some great reviews. Check it out here.
Also, because of the delays I’ve been having lately, I am going to share with you another project I am working on.

Friday night was the opening night for “Once Upon a CSI”.
It went great! The techs were right on with the music cues, and the lights, the actors were all on their game. We had the audience laughing, and groaning at the bad puns, it was great!
If you have the chance, come on out and see us. See the times and location at the Fringe Website.
So on Monday, I was running late on getting the comic up. I am sure some of you noticed. We had some wonderful storms come through Minnesota, lots of lightning and thunder. However, I was just about to start working on the days comic to get it uploaded, and suddenly… bright light, huge boom, power gone. The power was finally restored earlier this morning so all is good. More comics are written, and will be up by tomorrow.
First off let me say, WAUSAUBICON ROCKED!
It’s funny I sit here trying to figure out what to say about it, but there is just so much, I’m not sure where to start. The Con chairs Deb, Dave, and Cole were absolutely great, as was the rest of the staff. I want to also thank Dave B. for helping out so much during the convention, grabbing food and watching our table for us.
The attendees were awesome; they had great questions, were fun to just hang out and talk to, and even wanted my autograph which made my day I’ll tell you. The cosplay was amazing also. There was a Superman that when he was outside trying to cool down, his cape actually fluttered in the wind, it was perfect. There was also a great Black Canary who was happy that I recognized who she was. My favorite was a woman named Stephanie who was dressed as Terezi Pyrobe from Homestuck. Now I haven’t seen the actual game before, but the costume just looked so cool. Plus Stephanie did a great job with the grey/blue make-up it looked uniform and like actual skin.
Over the weekend I also got to meet Josh Grelle and Chris Ayres which was a lot of fun. They both worked on “Xenosaga: the Animation” which I really liked so I got to internally geek out a bit. Also throughout the weekend Chris and I had some pictures taken that I am sure will haunt us both for years to come.
The panels were a lot of fun, and bowling Saturday night was great. Wolfie and Jules danced at the Rave both nights which had some good techno sounds going.
All in all, it was a great weekend, and a great experience I will always remember and cherish.
I highly suggest you sign up for next year when they begin registration for next year. I’ll let people know when that has happened.
On a different note, now that the two big conventions are over, I will be back on track starting Wednesday.
So I have survived CONvergence 2011, and I have two days until Wausaubicon begins. Whooo, not much downtime.
CONvergence was a blast though. We once again put on the party room “Wonka’s Night Out”, and we had a great time seeing all of the regulars and meeting new con goers. I was allowed to torture the “Steam Century” scavenger hunters again this year. “Steam Century”‘s sends their players out to other parties to gather stamps. Each party room can ask a “quest” to be completed in order to get the stamp. As Wonka I just require that they tell me what they want. Seems simple huh? Oh no. I had a group of eight people working together for about 20 minutes to get the stamp. I got the Joker to cry.
CONvergence also gave me some great opportunities to hang out with some cool people. I got to hang out with Jason Carter (Marcus of Babylon 5), Sketch Gustafson (Creator of the Web comic STV), Christopher Doyle (Creator of the Web comic Reasonably Clever), and of course the other 4900 people that were just hangin out.
Now I am getting ready for Wausaubicon! Other than my books, and prints that I already have, they will be the first to see my new attempts at trading cards. You will see characters from Xenosaga, DC, Marvel, and Babylon 5 as well as others… well depending on how many I can get done in a day and a half.
I am really looking forward to this weekend, it will be my first Guest of Honor spot, and man am I excited.
Okay… that’s the longest blog post I think I have made to date. I’d better get back to work. See you at Wausaubicon.
It’s that time of year again. CONvergence starts this Thursday. Come on out and see Jules and my work in the dealer’s room, and you’ll find us through out the convention. We will once again be putting on the Wonka party with Lyn and the Fairy Goth Mother, so make sure to stop by there as well on Friday and Saturday evenings.
Another fun addition this year, is another great web comic artist/writer will be in the Artist Alley this year. His name is Sketch, and he produces “Small Town Values“, make sure you stop by and see him and check out his great comic.
Here is a hearty Happy Birthday to my Grandfather Howard.
You mean a lot to me Grandpa, and I hope you have a great day and many more.
Hey all,
So as I have announced in the past, I am going to be a “Guest of Honor” at Wausaubicon this July. Earlier today, it was announced that everyone who Pre-Registers will receive a free mini-poster (4.25″x5.5″) done by yours truly. This is the only way to get a copy of this mini-poster, so make sure you pre-register if you are going to attend. Pre-registration ends on the 15th of June. Hope to see a lot of you there.
